Who We Are

Confederation of International Universities represents many international universities and international conferences in 60+ countries. CIU plays a crucial role in the educational development process and in influencing international policies on higher education, research and innovation. Through continuous interaction with other international organisations, CIU ensures that the independent voice of international universities is heard.

What We Do:

CIU provides unrivalled opportunities for members to share best practices by participating in projects, events and other mutual-learning activities involving a wide range of universities. The confederation also provides members with unique opportunities to shape educational policies and initiatives affecting higher education and research.

CIU aims to be the most representative and influential global association of diverse higher education institutions and their organizations, promoting and advancing a dynamic leadership role for higher education in society.

Our Mission:

CIU promotes collaboration among its members by articulating the fundamental values and principles that underpin the pursuit, dissemination and application of knowledge. The confederation advocates for higher education policies and practices that respect diverse perspectives and promote social responsibility. With a particular emphasis on values and leadership, and acting as a forum for sharing and joint action, CIU encourages innovation, mutual learning and cooperation among institutions.

CIU promotes core values among its members and the wider higher education community including:

Objectives:

  • To serve as an International Organisation
  • To act as a bureau of information and to facilitate communication
  • Coordination and mutual consultation amongst universities
  • To act as a liaison between the universities and the Government, also co-operate with other universities or bodies (national or international) in matters of common interest
  • To act as the representative of all universities
  • To promote or to undertake such programmes as would help to improve standards of instruction, examination, research, textbooks, scholarly publications, library organisation and such other programmes as may contribute to the growth and propagation of knowledge
  • To help universities to maintain their autonomous character
  • To facilitate student mobility and exchange of members of the teaching and research staff, sharing of infrastructure, joint-research projects and publications between universities. To sign MoUs with sister organizations of all countries and to bring the universities together in the areas of mutual interest and to facilitate signing of MoUs between them
  • To appoint or recommend wherever necessary a common representative of the confederation at any conference or in organization, national or international, on education
  • To assist universities in obtaining recognition for their degrees, diplomas and examinations from other universities
  • To undertake, organise and facilitate conferences, seminars, workshops, lectures and research on various themes pertaining to higher education
  • To establish and maintain linkages with organizations dealing with youth welfare, student information services, cultural programmes, adult education and such other activities as are conducive to the betterment and welfare of students or teachers and others connected with universities
  • To act as a service agency to universities in whatever manner it may be required or prescribed
  • To undertake and facilitate the publication of newsletters, research papers, books etc.
  • To promote digitalization and provide value added services to its member universities in the form of admission portal, job portal & collaboration portal for promoting quality higher education.

Sustainability:

CIU supports its members in the achievement of the SDGs through advocacy and project work and serves as member of SDG. CIU also recognises the importance of the SDGs in its strategic plan.
